Canton Seniors Book Discussion group will meet on Thursday, January 23 in Group Study Room A. Copies of the book are distributed at the meeting or request a copy at the Adult Help Desk. No registration required. This month we are discussing Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg, Michigan Humanities Council's Great Michigan Read selection.
Annie's Ghosts: a Journey into a Family Secret by Steve Luxenberg. As his mother lays dying, Steve Luxenberg learns a family secret. The mother he thought was an only child, had an older sister. A sister who had been declared insane and placed in Eloise Hospital, Wayne, Michigan. With his family's reluctant consent, Steve Luxenberg unravels the secret.

Spend time at family get-togethers going for walks or playing with your grandkids. Take a few extra laps around the mall when you're doing holiday shopping. On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered his now-famous address to the troops at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg. It is thought to be one of the greatest speeches in American history. Lincoln repeated the principles of equality as set forth in the constitution as well as the ideal of representative government for all and praised those fighting for those principles. These are concepts that have made our country the envy of the world today, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of this great speech with an exhibit in the east end of the library. Come see the beautiful silk panels depicting the Civil War and join us for some special programming.

Looking for a new dish for your holiday table? Want to share the great potluck dish everyone raved about at the last party you attended? Share your favorite recipes, or discover new ones with our Holiday Recipe Exchange.
Bring in several copies of your favorite recipe (printed out on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper and paper clipped together) to put in the Holiday Recipe Exchange kiosk located by the Reception Desk from early November through late December. Look at the recipes others have left, and take home a new recipe or two.
If you prefer to share your recipe online, simply add the recipe in a comment to this blog post.

Aunt Agatha's Bookstore in Ann Arbor is hosting two author events in November.
Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00 PM — Chris Grabenstein will be joining the Aunt Agatha Book Group. He'll talk about his New Jersey set series featuring John Ceepak, as well as his books for young adults. He's written two with James Patterson; two featuring Riley Mack and most recently, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library.
Friday, November 8 at 2:00 PM — Julia Spencer-Fleming & Tasha Alexander will participate in Aunt Agatha's Book Group's discussion moderated by Andrew Grant. Julia has a terrific new Clare & Russ mystery and Tasha has a new Lady Emily mystery.
