Did you miss our Duck Storytime this week? Don't worry, here's what you missed, plus a few more suggestions so you can create your own storytime at home, complete with songs and stories.

Don't need a full storytime? Borrow a rhyme when you need a short distraction, or check out these materials and spend a few minutes reading together.

Ducks away! by Mem Fox

In case you missed our Duck storytime this week, don't worry. Here are some of the fun stories and songs we shared, plus some extras to do your own quacking storytime at home.

From Storytime

When Mama Duck's eggs hatch, revealing Feather, Flap, and Spike she feels like the luckiest duck in the pond.

Hey Kids,

You may have seen or heard the news that we have new eggs in our library nest. Mother ducks were spotted laying eggs in our Children's Department courtyard again, and if all goes well we look forward to welcoming baby ducks. While we wait for further action, might I suggest looking for a few ducky stories? Some recommendations - both fiction and nonfiction - are below. If you find one you especially enjoy, I bet the ducks in the courtyard (or me, the big friendly bear right next to them) might enjoy listening to you read it.

Hey Kids!

I've been settling into a new home over the last month. Many of you have already visited, but if you haven't seen my new digs, please drop by. All the old, fun things are still here - the tunnels, the fish, the tree, the books - and some great new resources to check out! I've even had my first houseguests: Mama Duck and her flock of ducklings will be staying until the little ones get big enough to fend for themselves in the great wide world.

So please stop on by. Find a new reading spot, fill your water bottle at our new water fountain, and investigate the new layout. Can't wait to see you here!

Bear Hugs,

Thorndyke

P.S. I've been reading a lot about ducks since the arrival of the ducklings. Check out some of the titles below.

On the Scene with the Animal Lover Badge: Baby Ducklings

The ducklings have grown up and have been relocated to the pond in the back of the library. Check the pond to catch a glimpse of mama and her teen ducks!

Summer is here and we have so much fun planned Connect Your Summer.

Ready to earn your Animal Lover On the Scene Badge? Our ducklings have outgrown the courtyard and have been relocated to the pond behind the library. Count the ducklings and wave hello. Then be sure to hop online and claim your Animal Lover On the Scene badge. And watch our Vines of the catch and release of the ducklings to earn your Animal Lover eLectrified badge. Have fun!

Duck Readers

With so many ponds nearby, I've been noticing a lot of ducks waddling around outside the library. Ducks are such nice birds — sometimes I like to feed them bread! I like reading about ducks, too. What about you? The library has lots of great books in our Readers section all about ducks! Try:

Ducks in muck by Lori Haskins ; illustrated by Valeria Petrone

Lucky duck by written by Ellen Weiss ; illustrated by Brian Lies

Goose and Duck by Jean Craighead George ; illustrated by Priscilla Lamont

Duck & company by Kathy Caple

And maybe next time you come to the library, you'll see some ducks outside on the grass, too!
