Computers

All computing at CPL is subject to our Computing Resources Policy.

Internet Access

Free Wi-Fi, internet jacks, electrical outlets, and USB charging outlets are available throughout the building. Internet connections provided by the library are unsecured and unencrypted; use at your own risk. Use of our Wi-Fi implies your acceptance of the Acceptable Use provisions of our Computing Resources Policy when you connect to the cpl network.

Access to this wireless network is available from our parking lot until 11pm--the best parking spots for Wi-Fi coverage are the ones near the northwest corner of the library building (closest to the west drive and the children's study booth area).

Copiers and Printers

A copy card is necessary for printing and copying. The reusable card costs $1.00 and has 50¢ of credit to start out. You can recharge the card with $1 bills. Prints and copies have the same per-side pricing:

  • Black&White 8.5x11|14 for 10¢
  • Color 8.5x11|14 for 50¢
PRINTING FROM A PUBLIC PC

You can create a print job from any of our public PCs.  Print jobs stay in our print server’s hold queue for 24 hours after creation.  When ready to print, proceed to any one of our five print release stations located throughout the library.  Use your copy payment card to release your print job(s) to the attached high-quality printer.

PRINTING FROM YOUR PERSONAL DEVICE

If you need to print when using your personal laptop, PC, or mobile device while in the library, at home, or anywhere with an internet connection, you can create a remote print job.  Canton Public Library uses Printer-On to provide this service.  The actual printing process is the same as described above but starts by submitting the document(s) to be printed.

Printer-On supports multiple methods for submitting the digital content you need printed (most people use email).  Visit  PrinterOn  for additional remote print options, such as their smart phone app or PC file upload.

SUBMITTING A PRINT JOB AS AN EMAIL ATTACHMENT

After sending, you'll receive a response email from no-reply@printspots.com (at busy times this can take several minutes).  Once your email has been processed, multiple entries will appear in the print queue.  One is the contents of the email message itself (identified with the email’s subject line), and then one per attachment (each identified by its filename).  Print only those entries you need.

Before forwarding an existing email message to be printed, be sure to check your email program’s options to also forward the attachments if needed for printing, and to include previous messages if printing them is desired.

Fax Services

Faxing can be done from either of the two copiers located in the Self-Service Area near the self-checkouts.  This service is free of charge but available only for destination fax numbers in the domestic USA.  Detailed “How to Fax” instructions are posted near the copiers.

Public Computers

CPL has nearly 110 computers for public use. We also offer computer classes throughout the year. Public computers are filtered per Michigan State law. Please note:

  • The Lab is restricted to 18-years-and-older by law because it provides unfiltered web access on 10 machines
  • Public computers will only store your working files until the end of the day. Be sure to save your files to a USB flash drive or web storage
  • For your protection, the ability to install new programs on public computers has been disabled
