Canton Public Library's second annual LEGO contest will be held September 28-29. This year, participants are asked to think creatively and build a Family Dream House. Please read all contest rules and register before hand to ensure space for display. There will be one winner for each grade division, 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, and 7th-8th as well as one popular-vote winner decided by library patrons. Winners will be announced at a reception at the close of the contest on Sunday, September 29 at 4:00 PM.

NPR has just released the Ultimate Backseat Bookshelf, a list of the top 100 books for kids ages 9-14. The books (or in some cases, series) are divided into categories like American Stories, Biographies, Everyday Magic, Family Life, Fantasy Worlds, Friendships and Finding Your Place, Good for a Laugh, Mysteries and Thrillers, Myths and Fairy Tales, Science Fiction, Poetry, and Survival and Adventure. You'll find most, if not all of these books at Canton Public Library.

LEGO recently released some fun new Summer Reading activities in connection with last year's Read! Play! Build! initiative. Here you'll find building plans for DUPLO blocks, and stories to go with them for ages 1 to 5 years old. Every summer, Waterworks Shakespeare Company takes over the Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak for a unique experience--Shakespeare in the Park. In the afternoons there is a family friendly show (this year it is Much Ado About Nothing) and the evenings are a full scale production (The Merry Wives of Windsor).

Do you LOVE storytime? Our well-loved Family Storytime will continue during Connect Your Summer, but with a Summertime Twist. We'll be enjoying storytimes once or twice a month in the great outdoors! Storytimes are designed for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver. Storytimes will be held in the tent behind the library. Rain location will be indoors. No registration required.
