Due to popular demand, we are welcoming back Sylvan Learning Center on Sunday, January 17 from 1:00-4:00PM to administer a full length SAT practice test. This test has been added to accommodate the patrons who were unable to register for the January 9 session and is open to teens aged 14-17.  Participants are to bring their own calculator and pencils. They must attend the entire session. Registration is required and although participants do not need to be Canton residents, they do need to have a valid library card entered in the CPL system to register.

Please Note: Sylvan administers one form of the SAT diagnostic test. If you attend more than one of these sessions, you will be repeating the same test each time.  As a result, any improvements in SAT score from one Sylvan session to another may not accurately reflect how one might do on the actual SAT test.

On the second Monday of each month, during 2016,  the highly trained staff from Starfish Family Services will present selected Early  Learning Community workshops for parents, caregivers and daycare providers. Join us on Monday January 11 from 6:30-8:30PM to learn some Kitchen Art Fun.  Participants will learn about art as a development tool in young children and develop strategies to talk to children about art.

Sylvan is back Saturday, January 9 from 1:00-4:00 PM. Teens aged 14-17 can attend this session to partake in a full length redesigned SAT practice test.  SATs will now be the accepted test scores by universities across the state of Michigan. Participants are to bring their own calculator and pencils. They must attend the entire session. Registration is required and begins December 23.

Raja Yoga Meditation helps you reach a deeper understanding of yourself, your intrinsic positive qualities and your innate value. There is beauty in all of us and through meditation the inner beauty not only is revealed to the self, but also to the people around us. On Saturday, January 30 from 4:00-5:45PM, join practitioners from the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University to explore these universal concepts and encourage your inner spiritual development toward a fresh perspective on values such as justice, freedom, respect and love. Sessions will be interactive and experiential, where your tools for the inward journey will be explored and shared.

Parenting the Montessori Way

The Montessori method and philosophy is well proven and scientific. It is process oriented and helps the child normalize in a prepared environment and utilize his/her fullest potential. This method has worked for 100 plus years and if used will lay a solid foundation for your childrens' lives.

The aim of this on-going program is to provide parents the necessary tools to prepare their environment to suit the needs of their child, to set simple and workable ground rules and to help their child build his/her concentration, confidence, coordination, independence and order. The program's vision is to create a positive and joyful parenting experience that helps the child develop in all aspects of life. Parents may receive lesson plans from actual school environments to use or make at home. This program is presented by the staff from Banyan Montessori Academy
