Here you'll find current favorites like Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, and Thomas the Tank Engine. You'll also find full length movies, like Tangled, The Sandlot, and The Great Muppet Caper, when they're not already checked out that is! Have a favorite cartoon from when Mom and Dad were little? We probably have those too! Movies check out for a week and are free! So stop here first the next time you plan a Family Movie Night.

Iris Johansen's Eve Duncan is going to the movies! Production started in Vancouver, B.C. just last week on The Killing Game, the second book in the Eve Duncan series. Two characters that have become reader favorites: Jane Maguire and Sarah Patrick were introduced in The Killing Game. Laura Prepon (That 70's Show) is playing Eve, and Naomi Judd will play Eve's mother Sandra. The Killing Game is scheduled to air on Lifetime this fall.

Actor Peter Falk, best known for his role as the rumpled cop on the television series Columbo, died Thursday in Beverly Hills, California at the age of 83. He was a five-time Emmy winner for the career-defining role as an absent-minded detective who always got his man. In addition to television, Falk appeared in numerous films and received successive Academy Award nominations for Murder, Inc. and Pocketful of Miracles. He also appeared in the critically acclaimed A Woman Under the Influence and the family favorite The Princess Bride.

Canton Township's Canton Seniors (55+) offers a great lineup of Summer Movies every Tuesday beginning July 7 through August 11.   The cost is $7 for Residents or $9 for Non-Residents for lunch at 12:30 p.m. and the movie at 1 p.m. If you would like dessert and the movie the fee is $1. Wednesday, June 22 is the opening night for the 2011 Detroit Windsor International Film Festival, which will take place on Wayne State University's campus. Running through Sunday, the 26th, the festival will screen a variety of short films, documentaries, and music videos. Now in its fourth year, the festival includes several films with local interest. "Cornertore" — about life in a party store on Six Mile Road — and "Fordson: Faith - Fasting - Football" — about an Arab-American high school football team from Dearborn — are just two of the entries with Detroit area ties. A Tech Fair for aspiring filmmakers will also be held on June 25 from 11:30AM to 4:00PM. Tickets for the festival are $5. For more information call (313) 222-8879.

The first big kid friendly release has hit the theaters, just in time for the last day of school. Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer takes Megan McDonald's popular red-headed heroine from the page to the big screen. Judy Moody's plans for a super exciting summer are derailed when her two closest friends head off to more exciting adventures, and her parents leave for California, leaving Judy and her brother Stink in the care of Aunt Opal. Will this mean a major bummer summer for Judy, or will it turn out to be super after all? The New York based organization, The Wolfe Pack, announced the nominees for this year's Nero Wolfe Award.   The winner will be announced at the Thirty-Fourth Annual Black Orchid Banquet held the weekend of December 2 -4 in New York City.  The finalists are:

Do you enjoy keeping up with the films that play on the festival circuit? Do you like strange, art house thrillers? If so, you may just want to check out Rubber. Rubber, originating from France, featured prominently during 2010, playing Cannes, Fantastic Fest, AFI, and others, and is finally getting a U.S. release! The story centers around Robert, an inanimate tire, who discovers that he has destructive telepathic powers. He soon sets his sights on a desert town and a beautiful woman who becomes the focus of his obsession. Creating a path of destruction, Robert may just be the most interesting movie villain yet.

Have you checked out Between the Lions yet? This PBS show is the step between Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow. Between the Lions teaches phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and other reading methods. Kids just like it because the Lion family — Theo, Cleo, Lionel and Leona — are funny and there are lots of cartoons and songs. Canton Public Library has both seasons here on DVD.
