Poet Laureate for Children

The Poetry Foundation has chosen their newest Poet Laureate, J. Patrick Lewis! The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has written a lovely post about Mr. Lewis on their blog. Also, we have a wonderful selection of poetry books by Mr. Lewis in our collection that you should check out and enjoy!

Between the Lions

Have you checked out Between the Lions yet? This PBS show is the step between Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow. Between the Lions teaches phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and other reading methods. Kids just like it because the Lion family — Theo, Cleo, Lionel and Leona — are funny and there are lots of cartoons and songs. Canton Public Library has both seasons here on DVD. You can also visit Between the Lions online. There are lots of tips for parents and teachers there too!

Batter Up!

Get your math bat out (otherwise known as your brain) and have fun playing Math Baseball! This fun game is part of the Funbrain website. It has different levels of difficulty and also different skills (such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) that you can test your math magic on. Each time you get a right answer you get a home run! Have fun!

Puppet Kits

Did you know we have puppets at the library? Did you know that we have created Puppet Kits for you to enjoy? The puppet kits contain a picture book and puppet to help bring the story to life. You can have an adventure with Curious George, get lost with Max and the Wild Things, or fight off the Big Bad Wolf with the 3 Little Pigs. Your adventures begin along the purple wall near the DVD's in the Children's Department.

Press Here

Kids, press the yellow dot on the cover of this book, follow the instructions within, and embark upon a magical journey! Each page of this surprising book will tell you to press the dots, shake the pages, tilt the book, and then discover what will happen next! Press Here is great for large groups like storytime, or fun for just one. It is a fantastic "interactive" book; as good, if not better than any new app you can download! We here at CPL give it two BIG thumbs up!
