storytime kit

We are very exited about a new resource available for families and teachers when our renovated children's library re-opens. This new item for checkout is called a Storytime Kit. In it patrons will find a picture book, a related puppet or plush , cd with songs, and a sheet of suggested fingerplays or action rhymes.  This is an excellent resource for families who would like to do their own mini storytime at home, or teachers of young children who need a quick resource for tomorrow's lesson. It is a great way for parents, grandparents and teachers to share some creative, valuable time with their kids.

"Clifford" author dies

CliffordNorman Bridwell, creator of the classic book series "Clifford the Big Red Dog," died Friday night in Martha's Vineyard.  He was 86. The idea for Clifford began in 1962, when Bridwell considered earning extra money for his family by working as a freelance artist. The Clifford stories became a huge success, despite being rejected by a publisher 15 times. More than 126 million books were sold in 13 languages. Bridwell drew Clifford with a ballpoint pen on a pad of paper and Scholastic added the color. Check out the great Clifford books at our library.

Leaf through a book!

A special thank-you to all the kids that participated in our "Favorite Book, Leaf Display." Kids wrote the name of a book on a colored leaf that was displayed on the wall in the children's department. We had 344 leaves on the wall representing library kids and their favorite books! Your favorite book series represented were: Harry Potter, Magic Tree House, Geronimo Stilton, and Michigan/American Chillers.
