Savvy Seniors: BARD Mobile App Now Available

The BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download) Mobile application for iOS devices is now available at Apple’s App Store. The app enables National Library Service (NLS) patrons to download audio and Braille books, magazines and music scores directly to their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, provided they have a BARD account. NLS plans to release an app for Android devices in the near future.

If you weren't able to get your Flu shot at Canton Public Library this past Tuesday, October 2 the Canton Leisure Center/Canton Seniors is holding a Flu Shot Clinic on Wednesday, October 23. Call the Canton Senior Center desk to make an appointment at 734-394-5485. Bring your Medicare and/or insurance card. Flu Shots and Pneumonia Shots are available.

Affordable Care Act Marketplaces

The Affordable Care Act Marketplaces (Exchanges) are scheduled to open on October 1st. This is where we will go to find the best solution to our individual and family health care insurance needs. Since this is a new experience for all of us, we need a little guidance and information to be successful, thrifty and healthy. David Huntzicker of Kapnick Insurance Group will be our guide as we begin our search. David will explain the categories and the time lines we will all need to be aware of, as well as all the options available to us.

Affordable Care Act Marketplace Application Checklist

Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act's Health Insurance Marketplace starts October 1, 2013. When you apply for coverage in the Health Insurance Marketplace, you’ll need to provide some information about you and your household, including income, any insurance you currently have, and some additional items. There is a checklist available at Healthcare.gov to help you assemble and organize this important information.

Drive Michigan's Transportation Future

You can influence the Michigan Department of Transportation planning process that identifies and funds surface transportation projects across the state. The STIP lists projects MDOT is committed to over the next four years using federal funding. These projects includes both urban and non-metropolitan roads, bridges and public transit. Now is the the time to review these plans and tell MDOT what you think. View the projects online or request a printed copy by calling 517-373-9534. Deadline for public comments is September 4, 2013.
