Take Your Dog to Work Day Friday, June 21

Many of us look forward to the end of the busy work week. Whether you are in school or work, Friday is by far the best day of the week. But on Friday, June 21st, there's another reason to celebrate. It's Take Your Dog to Work Day! Make sure you have permission from your boss or company before bringing your best friend to the workplace. More than half of all households in America own a dog. The presence of pets reduces our stress level and benefits our overall wellbeing. But if you don't own a dog or unable to bring your dog to work, consider a fundraiser for a local rescue shelter or share your pet pictures with your coworkers for a fun photo contest. Here's some books from the pet collection to spark your inspiration!

Dogs : 500 pooch portraits to brighten your day by photographer Michelle Perkins

Ask any dog lover: dogs and puppies are the best thing ever! Dogs lift our moods, lower our blood pressure, and improve our sense of well-being. In fact, people who have pets in their lives even live longer! In this book, we've collected 500 photos that capturing the beauty and personality of a wide range of breeds--and wide variety of dogs' favorite activities, from lazy naps to spirited romps on the beach. Inspirational quotes about dogs and their honored roles in our families add another level of optimism and love. Based on the Twitter and Instagram sensation, #WeRateDogs features the most heroic, over-the-top adorable, wildly successful, all-around entertaining dogs the world has ever seen! It combines extraordinary photos with ridiculous captions to expand the knowledge and overall lives of its readers. It is not only an exceptionally reliable source for dog greatness, it is also a one stop shop for happiness. This book takes readers on a journey through the strict science of dog rating and the unwavering rules associated with it. Questioning the accuracy of these ratings is ill-advised. They are certainly not arbitrary and this book is absolutely not just about how cute dogs are. It truly is all about precision and ethics in dog rating. The #WeRateDogs book will produce an audible reaction with every flip of the page--whether a groan from a terrible pupper pun or an "aww" of seeing a super floofer. If #WeRateDogs takes you away from reality and pushes you into this conglomerate of absurdity for even a second, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

Rescue dogs : portraits and stories by photographer Susannah Maynard

Dog rescue has blossomed in recent years, as more and more people are choosing to adopt dogs from animal shelters and homegrown rescue organizations and have categorically steered away from purchasing dogs from breeders and puppy mills. In this beautifully illustrated book, Susannah Maynard provides personality-rich dog portraits and chronicles rescue dogs' journeys from a turbulent start to a warm, loving, and happy and safe home. Readers will find heartwarming and triumphant stories that point to dogs' characteristic resilience and unconditional love. Her subjects include puppies, adult dogs, and special needs dogs--of all breeds, and of course, mixed breeds--and her stories will empower readers to join the rescue effort or bolster their efforts to increase their volunteer involvement to better the lives of rescue dogs, one animal at a time.

Unleashed by photographer Amanda (Photographer) Jones

Dogs are in their natural element when they are playing outdoors. Pet photographer Amanda Jones captures this unbridled joy perfectly in her latest collection of photographs. Set against the backdrop of four distinct seasons--each with its own color palette and lush backdrops--these dogs are clearly having their favorite days in their favorite places. This handsome book showcases the energy and character of a diverse group of dogs as they run, jump, and play outdoors all yearlong.

Waggish : dogs smiling for dog reasons by photographer Grace Chon

There's no mistaking a happy dog. The wagging tail, eager eyes, and smile that cannot be faked. A happy dog radiates joy that comes through in every one of these amazing photographs from Grace Chon. Yet the mystery remains: What is going on behind those gleeful grins? Are they laughing with us? At us? Are they operating at a higher stage of enlightenment . . . or just buttering us up before we discover the tiny, torn remnants of burrito wrapper suspiciously dotting the hallway?

No one knows for sure, but this world-class collection of canines--big and small; rescues and pure breeds; deep thinkers, bemused skeptics, and carefree optimists--offers wordsmith Melanie Monteiro plenty of opportunity to guess. She's spot on, pairing expressions with inner dialogue like, "There's absolutely nothing going on here that you need to worry about. . ." or "Let me in so I can go out again." Waggish is the perfect gift for every dog lover.

Finally, Bark & Co. has tapped the humans at BarkPost, the company's publishing arm, to put into words and photographs the first official BarkBook, capturing the depth, spirit, and power of the extraordinary bond between humans and their pups. Mostly community-sourced and filled with never-before-told anecdotes, stories, photos, and intimate insights, Dogs and Their People  spotlights over 200 unique and remarkable dogs.
