2018 Family Music Fest

Music fills our days with joy and provides a soundtrack to our lives. Celebrating music together is a great way to meet your neighbors and build community. Join us for a free, all day, ALL AGES music celebration on Saturday, October 13, 2018. No registration required.

10:00AM - Mr Nick and Ms Angie Davio LIVE in Concert - Hailing from the Windy City of Chicago, Mr Nick is an accomplished music teacher at the Old Town School of Folk Music and Chicago Children's Theatre. He's even rocked out at the Lollapalooza family stage! He will be joined by his wife, Angie, to share their wonderful, family-fun music. This performance is recommended for our younger patrons and their familes and will take place instead of the mornings' Family Storytime.

11:30AM - Motor City Street Dance Academy - MCSDA works to enhance the lives of their mentees through hip-hop, break dancing, physical activity and healthy living. Using their main method called S.E.E.D. (Spreading the Elements Everywhere in Detroit), their program builds community through networking and confidence through the dance elements of hip hop. Since its conception in 2015, S.E.E.D. has created 8 different dance crews in Southwest Detroit. Watch members of these crews share their street dancing skills, including popping, locking, and hip-hop freestyle. You might also learn a thing or two about this awesome dance movement.

12:15-1:45PM - Face Paint Day Break provided by VIBE Credit Union in the Friends' Activity Room. Don't want to go home for lunch? Bring your own packed lunch and fuel up for our 2:00PM music performance right on site. AND get your face painted!

2:00PM - PanaMO Trio - Detroit’s “PanaMO” is a renowned Latin Jazz ensemble led by the Panamanian Master percussionist and composer Obed Succari. Named as a portmanteau of “Panama” and “Motown,” the band performs a repertoire of original music and jazz standards that have been rearranged to reflect a strong Latin flavor. Their music is a mixture of Afro-Latin rhythms that embraces modernity while respecting the essence of the music’s roots.

4:00PM - Sumkali - Sumkali is a diverse music group made up of members from North and South India and the American Midwest. For over a decade Sumkali has created, collaborated and performed with musicians from India and the USA to create music with a truly global appeal.
