Flag Day is June 14th!

Flag Day was created as a patriotic holiday to celebrate the American Flag. In 1916, President Wilson issued the first proclamation calling for a nationwide observance of Flag Day on June 14th and it was made a permanent observance in 1949. For fun facts concerning Flag Day, how to celebrate Flag Day, graphics of the 50 state flags, flag etiquette, cake, crafts, e-cards, patriotic song lyrics and more, see this web site. Check out a listing of sources that detail the history of the American flag in the Canton Library.

Vintner's Book Discussion is March 15th

We will be discussing Death of a Wine Merchant by David Dickinson. This is a British historical mystery set in Victorian England and France with fine prose and a complex plot. A son of the Colvilles, who are wealthy wine merchants, is about to marry the daughter of the even grander Nash family. Immediately after the wedding, the bridegroom’s Uncle Cosmo is found clutching a gun over the body of his brother. He refuses to give any explanation, even to his attorney, who retains Lord Francis Powerscourt to investigate.

Vintner's Winery is located in the Golden Gate Shopping Complex across from Mettetal Airport in the SE corner of Joy and Lilley Rds.

Register online for the "Wine and Mysteries" program which meets on March 15th and ask at the reference desk for a copy of the book! We have several copies available in the back.

Victorian Is My Passion

I love Victorian mysteries, movies, non-fiction or anything with that flavor or set in that time period. A trifle romantic, a bit goth, always prim and proper up front, but underneath...ooh, so mysterious! Here is a list of titles, some classics, but most not so well known.

Fiction

Kept : a Victorian mystery by D.J. Taylor

Death at Whitechapel : a Victorian mystery by Robin Paige

Defend and betray by A Victorian Mystery Featuring Inspector Monk by Anne Perry
