On November 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln delivered his now-famous address to the troops at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg. It is thought to be one of the greatest speeches in American history. Lincoln repeated the principles of equality as set forth in the constitution as well as the ideal of representative government for all and praised those fighting for those principles. These are concepts that have made our country the envy of the world today, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of this great speech with an exhibit in the east end of the library.
