UM STEM -Spring 2018

The Canton Public Library has partnered with the University of Michigan’s Technical Communications department to bring a series of fun and exciting STEM workshops to the library. These workshops will present a wide range of topics in the science, technology, engineering and math disciplines. Each session has been designed and developed for kids aged 11 – 13 by engineering students at the university.

  • Sunday, March 18 - Helping Hand: Biomechanics. At engineering's core is the desire to improve lives. Each advancement in engineering is built off of a simple idea. In this workshop, participants will use simple household items to create a functional prosthetic hand.
  • Saturday, March 24 - Exploring Alternative Energy: Wind Power Workshop. Alternative forms of energy are becoming increasingly important in todays world. This workshop will showcase how turbine blade design can effect how much energy we can extract from the wind. Build your own blades!
  • Sunday, April 8 - Making Music with Circuits. Think that STEM and the Arts aren't related? Think again! Join us as we combine creativity and technical skills to design and build electronic synthesizer instruments using littleBits.

Registration is required and begins on February 21 for the March sessions. Registration for the April 8 begins on March 22.
