Dear Patron,
The COVID-19 novel coronavirus continues to be top of mind and we've been actively monitoring updates from Canton Township, Wayne County, the State of Michigan, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Health Organization.
We respectfully ask, for the health of our staff and our community, that if you are not feeling well, or are concerned about exposure to the virus, that you refrain from visiting the library. We are happy to extend loan periods on checked out items, or enroll you in our Books by Mail service.
In support of our core value of Access, the library remains open our normal business hours to serve our community. We have stepped up sanitization of public spaces. Our outside cleaning company uses commercial grade supplies and disinfectants to eliminate infectious germs, and they are paying special attention to cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, including high-touch areas such as door handles, keypads and computer keyboards, and of course, public restrooms. Our restrooms are stocked with soap, and we have hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes available at all public service desks. The puppets, toys, puzzles and other playthings which can’t be cleaned repeatedly throughout the day have been removed until further notice.
While we have taken extra steps to clean the library facility, we do not disinfect borrowed materials. Disinfecting these types of items and materials is not currently recommend by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is impractical. We encourage you to explore our wide selection of digital resources, including e-books, e-audiobooks, streaming movies and music, and digital magazines.
We're here for the students needing the Internet and other study materials but would like to remind parents that children under age 11 should be accompanied with a caregiver who is at least 13 years old.
Currently, all library-sponsored programs at the library will continue as planned, with the exception of the Happiness Celebration on March 19, and Senior Book Discussion on March 26. The Community Literacy Council’s ELL Conversation Groups are suspended through Monday, April 6. We continue to evaluate the situation and this may change, so please call the library at 734-397-0999 or check our website, www.cantonpl.org, or social media for updates. Room rentals for groups over 50 people will be suspended; if you are planning to attend a program hosted by an outside room rental, confirm the status with the organizer.
We encourage you to follow CDC recommended practices to prevent the spread of germs: wash your hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, cough into your sleeve, and practice social distancing.
The library is working closely with local, county, state and federal agencies to monitor this rapidly evolving situation. In the meantime, as a valued community resource for reliable and accessible information, our librarians have curated a list of accurate and up-to-date resources on COVID-19, which may be found on our website.
