Author Ray Bradbury 1920-2012

Legendary writer Ray Bradbury has passed away at the age of 91. Author of classics such as Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles, Bradbury saw several of his works turned into movies, among them The Illustrated Man and Something Wicked This Way Comes. His career of over 70 years earned him many honors, including 2000 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, the 2004 National Medal of Arts, and a 2007 Pulitzer Prize Special Citation.

2011 William L.Crawford Fantasy Award Winner

Mechanique: A Tale of the Circus Tresaulti by Genevieve Valentine is the recipient of this year's William L. Crawford Fantasy Award. This annual award honors talented, up-and-coming authors who published their first novel in the year previous to the award. Previous winners of this award are Charles de Lint and Judith Tarr.

Connie Willis Wins Prestigious Writer's Award

Connie Willis, the prolific science fiction author, has won the prestigious Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award for 2011. The award is given by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) and celebrates lifetime achievement in science fiction or fantasy. The library owns many of her titles, including Blackout/All Clear, which won the Hugo Award for 2011.

In Memoriam: Anne McCaffrey (1926-2011)

Anne Inez McCaffrey (1 April 1926-21 November 2011) award-winning author of the "Dragonriders of Pern" series, has died of a stroke at her Ireland home. She was 85 years old. Ms. McCaffrey, the first woman to receive a Hugo Award for fiction and the Nebula Award, was named 22nd Grand Master of the Science Fiction Writers of America in 2005 and inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2006. She was the first science fiction writer to make the New York Times Bestsellers List.
