Volunteer

Our Service Volunteers are a very special group of people who donate their time to help us keep the library running smoothly and efficiently. Their volunteer assignments may range from cutting scrap paper, dusting library shelves or watering plants to shelving, processing library materials or withdrawing items from the database. Library Service Volunteers must be at least (14) years old.

Teen Leadership Council

The Teen Leadership Council is a volunteer opportunity for teens ages 13-18. Members will have hands-on experience planning, promoting, and running programs and services at the library, as well as assisting in outreach with local non-profit organizations. The Teen Leadership Council accepts applications seasonally, and is not accepting applications at this time.

How to Volunteer

When volunteer positions are available, they are posted here. At that time, you can print out a Volunteer Application and return it to the Check Out Desk. We do not keep volunteer applications on file, nor do we accept unsolicited applications. Please refer to the CPL Volunteer Program Code of Conduct for details/restrictions.

Those in need of immediate community service hours can contact PBJ Outreach, Open Door Food Ministry, or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at 313-393-2936. Zaman International needs volunteers for its mobile food drive and resale store. Contact them online or phone Layali al Sadah at 313-551-3994 x2010. Students interested in obtaining service credit for do-it-yourself volunteer projects can check out the Michigan Humane Society for ideas. The Humane Society will then provide signed documentation of the volunteer work performed.
