Family History Sleuth: Getting Started with Genealogy

With so much information available online and at the library, getting started on your family history has never been easier. Kris Rzepczynski, a coordinator at the Library of Michigan, will highlight the tools available to help sleuth out your long, lost relatives. This program will explore key resources, including census records and newspapers, online tools and databases to assist you in your research, and successful strategies for finding your elusive ancestors. Join us July 24th at 7:00 PM.

“Fun”damentals of Digital Photos

Join us Thursday, August 8 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Internet Lab and learn how to make digital photos from old snapshots so you can email them to family and friends or share them on your Facebook page. And if you have digital photos being held “hostage” inside your cell phone or digital camera, this class will show you how to set them free! Also, learn basic editing techniques to make your good pictures look great. Then explore a few of the endless creative possibilities for using and sharing your photos. This beginner-level class includes some hands-on computer training. Prerequisite: Basic computer, mouse and Internet skills.

Collecting Family Stories: How to Interview Your Relatives with Virginia Bailey Parker

Virginia Bailey Parker is a national award-winning author, oral historian, speaker and writing coach. She has written three books, has been a columnist, newsletter editor for professional organizations and a freelance writer. Parker will help you record your family's unique stories while you can. But first, which questions should you ask and how do you ask them to get the best results when interviewing family members. Join us on Monday, July 8 at 7:00 PM.
