Beginning August 21, our west parking lot will be closed for repavement. The lot will be blocked from the entrance at Civic Center Drive; no access will be allowed down the west driveway. We expect the project to be completed on August 28, however, it is weather dependent. In addition to fixing crumbling pavement, two additional handicapped spaces will be added to the lot.

While the drive is closed, book donations can be dropped at the shelves placed at the front of the library. Overflow parking is available at the Canton Township Administration lot across Veterans Way. Please obey all posted traffic signs.

We're working with the Canton Public Safety Community Engagement Team to make sure Canton students have what they need to be successful in school. From July 30 through August 18, we're collecting school supplies  to be distributed by Canton Public Safety. Bring donations of the following items to the library.

  • boxes of colored pencils
  • boxes of crayons
  • wide rule spiral notebooks
  • glue sticks

Thanks for helping our students get the school year off to a great start.

Currently, items returned through the interior and exterior material return slots on July 6 and July 7 may not be immediately removed from your patron record. If a returned item is still showing on your My Account record, please allow 24 hours for items to be processed. After 24 hours, if the item is still showing on your record, please call the library to resolve the situation at 734-397-0999. You will not incur fines for items returned on time. If you'd like to insure that your material is removed from your account, please take it to the Check Out Desk.

Now you can sign up for text message alerts and get notified on your mobile phone when

  • your hold is ready for pickup
  • items are due
  • you have fines
  • eligible items can be renewed
  • and other notifications

To sign up, text the word SIGNUP to 734-619-6615, then follow the prompts. You'll need to enter your library card number and then you will receive a confirmation text. For more information, or to sign up online, visit our website.

This service is provided through Shoutbomb and your cell phone plan's regular text messaging rates may apply. Text message service doesn't replace your preferred library notifications. You'll still get email, phone or mail notices if that's what you requested, unless you let us know to discontinue them.

We will be upgrading our systems beginning on Thursday, May 4, during the hours of 4:00-6:00 AM. During this time, the following services will be unavailable:

The library catalog
My Account

Program Calendar
Databases, e-books, and other e-media

There will be a delay in returned materials being removed from your account. We appreciate your patience, and apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Our latest improvement project is now complete, ahead of schedule and under budget. We thank you for your patience during the construction and invite you to stop in and see the new Teen Space, renovated study rooms, additional study rooms and the completely remodeled Secondhand Prose, the Friends of the Library Book store. Join us April 30, noon-2:00 PM for our Teen Space Grand Re-opening party.

In 2016, the library started the work of a new strategic plan. We dove headfirst into learning more about our community--not just the numbers, although we gathered plenty of statistics and looked through a lot of data. We wanted to learn about you--your hopes, your dreams, your goals. Person after person sat down in our Dream Tent to share their thoughts and we learned a lot. As the next three years unfold, we will work to provide programs, services and resources to help you fulfill those dreams. No matter where you are headed, the library can help you get there.

Get To Know Your Sikh Neighbor

Get to know your Sikh neighbor during a drop-in program sponsored by the Sikh community of the Gurdwara Sahib Singh Sabha of Michigan, the Canton Public Library and the Canton Response to Hate Crimes Coalition. This program, Get To Know Your Sikh Neighbor - Sikh Mystique, will allow the opportunity to meet members of the Sikh community and learn about beliefs and customs, as part of the “Not In Our Town: Stop Hate Together” initiative. Everyone is welcome.

Salvation Army logo

The Canton Public Library is working with the Salvation Army of Plymouth to help our students with the basic supplies necessary to be a success in school. From August 1-29, we will accept donations of pens in black, blue and red ink, No. 2 pencils, highlighters and glue sticks. Drop donations in the box near the library's main doors. We thank you for your help in supporting our community.
