Canton Public Library wants you to Electrify Your Winter and Spark Your Year! We've created a whole packet of "Spark Sheets" to help you set goals and achieve great things. We will be rolling these out over the winter with curated expiriences to encourage connectivity and growth for all ages. Our kids and family components are called Take Time Together. We will link to the relevant Spark Sheets as well as suggest activities you can do at home to grow in ways you never thought of. Catered to fit your busy lives, suggestions vary for families who have 5 minutes, 30 minutes, or 2 hours to spend with each other. The choice is yours!

The Wellness Widget Spark Sheet helps us be kind to ourselves. Take a moment to focus on the good things in life and not the things that stress you out. Do something fun and relax!

5 minutes:

Take 5 minutes with a friend for family member to each share three things you like or admire about each other. Then, bask in the feel good glow. We don't compliment each other nearly enough.

30 Minutes:

Take 30 minutes to cut out and fold our Wellness Widget (see links below). Share it with a friend or family member. Look here for instructions for how to use it. You can even illustrate it!

2 hours:

Take 2 hours to play a board game or go outside and play a winter sport (snow football, anyone?). Get some exercise for your mind or body. Invite friends and family. It'll be the perfect distraction, just what you need to forget your blues and start feeling good.

2019 LEGO® Building Contest: Theme Park Attraction

Attention Builders! It’s time for our LEGO® Building Contest. This year's theme is Theme Park Attractions. Build us your most imaginative park attraction, be it a ride, a food stand, a maze, or an animal enclosure. There are multiple divisions based on age: K-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, 7th-8th, 9th-adult. Contestants may enter individually or as part of a team. Registration begins Wednesday, December 12 and the contest will take place Wednesday, January 2. Entries must be dropped off between 9:00 AM-12:00 PM on the day of the contest. A public viewing will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM, and an awards ceremony from 7:00-8:00 PM.  Patrons will have the opportunity to cast their vote for a Popular Vote winner separately from age category winners that will be chosen by our judges.

Contest Rules

  1. Use your own LEGO®, Duplo, Megablocks or other LEGO® compatible plastic bricks, motors and materials.

Enjoyed 1984 and the Chronicles of Narnia? Try one of these:

I, robot by Isaac Asimov
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

In a society in which books are outlawed, Montag, a regimented fireman in charge of burning the forbidden volumes, meets a revolutionary school teacher who dares to read. Suddenly he finds himself a hunted fugitive, forced to choose not only between two women, but between personal safety and intellectual freedom.

Excited for the movie? Want to learn more about these heroes, their history, and others who have held the Ant-Man and Wasp mantle? Try one of these books:

Gathering together to face the evil Loki, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Ant-Man, the Wasp, and the Mighty Thor formed the improbable core of the ever-changing super-team. And from the ice of the northern Atlantic, Captain America returned from the frozen depths that the Avengers truly took form. Illustrated by Jack Kirby and Don Heck, and written by Stan "The Man" Lee, you'll find the first appearances of Kang the Conqueror, Wonder Man, the Space Phantom and Baron Zemo, the debut of the Masters of Evil and the Hulk's departure from the team, and subsequent battle with the Sub-Mariner vs. the Avengers.

Scott Lang has never exactly been the world's best super hero. Most people don't even think he's been the best Ant-Man! And the last guy invented Ultron and joined the Masters of Evil, so that's saying something. But when the Superior Iron Man calls with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and an old enemy returns (sort of), Scott's going to get a chance to turn it all around and be the hero he's always dreamed of being. This time nothing is gonna stop the astonishing Ant-Man!
