The challenge for the builders this month was to create the ultimate superhero or super villain hideout!

  • Genghis Khan was made by two young ladies that wanted to make a villain hideout.
  • I'm Watching You was made by Alexandria. This villain hideout captures people and has a siren alarm for anyone who tries to escape or come in.
  • Sharigan was made by Saif and Ali. This villain hideout has cars, a flag, and guards.
  • Superhero Base was made by Fatima. This hero hideout included instruments, four people, and a flag.
  • Villain Base was made by Khalid. This hideout had several moving traps, an airplane, and car.
  • Dragonfly was also made by Fatima. This hideout had a roof, flags, and a guard.
  • The Breeeze was made by Courtney. This villain hideout had an elephant trunk, a watering can for the villains plants, a satellite dish for an umbrella, and a pet spider.
  • Villain Boat was created by Khole. This villain hideout had a portal and an event-able excite-a-boat. 
  • Something was created by Teja. It is so secret, that we only know it does.....something!
  • Hero Base was created by David. This hideout includes an archer, a launcher, guards with swords, gold, and a boss.
  • DC Villain Hideout was created by Kavin. This hideout has a flag, an eye that scans everyone who enters, a lava pool that you have to wear a red mask so you can swim in, a secret watch parrot, and an octopus for a pet. 

For this month, Lego engineers were challenged to build a Winter Wonderland Vehicle.

The requirements were;

  • Movement: how will your vehicle move through large amounts of snow?
  • Comfort: how does your vehicle keep you safe and warm?
  • Style: what makes your vehicle unique, cool, and awesome?

For this month, Lego engineers were challenged to build a trap for Newt Scamander to catch a Fantastic Beast! The requirements were;

  1. Lure: how will you attract the beast to go into the trap?
  2. Capture: how does your trap contain the beast without hurting it?
  3. Calm: how does your trap calm the beast so it can travel safely?

Here are some of the creations for our 5/29 LEGO build.

The challenge was to create a tool to get a spy out of a tricky situation.

The challenge for this Lego build was to create a spaceship that solved the following problems. 

  1. How does your spaceship move?
  2. What type of power does your spaceship use?
  3. How does your spaceship keep you safe in space?
  4. How does your spaceship safely land?

Open Lego Build

Come join us for one hour of creative play and building with our collection of Lego and Duplo Blocks. All welcome to complete our challenges or free play. Lego building develops engineering skills, encourages imagination, and socialization with other children. Lego creations will be displayed on our website after each meeting.

2018 LEGO® Building Contest

LEGO® creation

Attention Builders! It’s time for our LEGOs® in SPACE! Building Contest. Show us your most creative, outer space design. It could be a space ship, a space battle, an alien, or even a scene from a space themed book or movie. There are multiple divisions based on age: K-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, 7th-8th, 9th-adult.  Contestants may enter individually or as part as a team.  Registration begins Wednesday, December 20, and the Contest will take place Wednesday, January 3.   Entries must be dropped off on January 2 between 6:00-8:00 PM or on January 3 between 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 3:00-6:00 PM and an awards ceremony at 7:00 PM.  Patrons will have the opportunity to cast their vote for a Popular Vote winner separately from age category winners that will be chosen by our judges.

Contest Rules

  1. Use your own LEGO®, Duplo, Megablocks or other LEGO® compatible plastic bricks, motors and materials.
  2. Entries must be your own creation, not a LEGO® designed kit or a project found online, in a book, or in a magazine.
  3. Your creation may not be larger than 2' x 2' x 2'.
  4. Participants must register online (beginning December 20) to ensure a space for display. Please also fill out the paper entry form (downloadable from the CPL web site) and bring it with you when you drop off your entry.
  5. Each person may enter only once. You may enter as an individual OR as part of a team but not both. Entering as a team is a way for families and friends to build together. Team entries will be judged in the age category of the oldest team member.
  6. You must adhere to the following participation schedule (see below).
  7. Canton Public Library cannot assume responsibility of LEGO® creations while they are on display, though we will have someone monitoring the room at all times.
  8. Entries must be taken home by Wednesday, January 3, by 8:45 PM.

  • Tuesday, January 2
    • 6:00-8:00 PM: drop off entries
  • Wednesday, January 3
    • 9:00 AM-12:00 PM: drop off entries
    • 12:00-3:00 PM: room closed for viewing set-up and judging
    • 3:00-6:00 PM: public viewing and popular vote casting
    • 6:00-7:00 PM: room closed for popular vote tallying and ceremony set-up
    • 7:00-8:00 PM: awards ceremony

Lego Bingo Challenge

2017 LEGO® Fantastic Beasts Building Contest

Attention Builders!  Show us your most creative creature designs using LEGOs® in our Fantastic Beasts Building Contest!
