In October, the Canton Public Library has a beautiful display and collaboration with VegMichigan about the health benefits of going vegan or plant-based. Additionally, we had a presentation on reversing chronic illness with a plant-based diet from Marc Ramirez of Chickpea and Bean (and former U of M football player). Whether you are curious about the display or presentation, or want a refresher on some of the books and documentaries available, here is just a taste of the many vegan and plant-based offerings the library has.

Savvy Seniors: March 2014

March is National Nutrition Month, in the words of Hippocrates “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." Canton seniors can dine Monday-Friday at 11:30AM at the Summit on the Park's Oak Room.  Free if you are 60 years or older.

If you are homebound, age 60 and older you can receive a hot meal delivered to your home Monday-Friday. For more information contact: Wayne County Office of Nutrition Services734-727-7357 or 800-851-1454.

Diabetes and Service Dogs

When we think of services dogs, the images that come to mind are dogs that help people with physical disabilities. But what may surprise you is that special service dogs can alert families when a loved one has diabetes. Diabetic-alert dogs are trained to detect dangerous drops in blood sugar.
