NHS Tutoring

National Honor Society students from the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park are here to provide 3rd-12th graders free homework help. If you're interested in getting tutored:

You must be in 3rd through 12th grade
If you're under 12, your parent must remain in the library
You must bring the assignment and any other needed materials

Days and Times 

Sunday from 1:00-3:00PM 
Monday from 6:00-8:00 PM 
Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 PM 
Thursday from 6:00-8:00 PM 

In compliance with the PCEP rules, students wishing to be tutored are required to wear masks. 

There will be no tutoring during breaks or school closures/snow days.

Those seeking tutoring will be helped on a first come first, served basis. They will be allowed a 30 minute maximum if there is a line. Please sign up at the Children's desk.

Pickling Pickles with Patton

Pickles

Join this live demo with librarian Dan Patton on how to make simple refrigerator pickles. You'll need to have your own cucumbers (any variety) or other vegetables. We'll supply you with some basic seasoning, instructions, and a jar. Additional fresh ingredient suggestions:

  • Dill
  • Garlic
  • Green onions
  • Carrots
  • Cilantro
  • Thyme

Mindfulness with Reset Brain and Body

Mindfulness is the idea of focusing your awareness on the present moment. It affords many health benefits, stress reduction, and increases your gratitude of everyday moments.

On August 20, join us for a virtual day of mindfulness with Reset Brain and Body, based out of Plymouth.

At 2pm, Bridget will teach kids and families mindfulness.

At 6pm, Holly will lead adults in how to start a mindfulness practice. 

Participants will receive a code to access Mindfulness 101, an e-book created by Reset Brain and Body. 

This program will take place virtually over Zoom. Participants will receive an email with the Zoom link the day before the program starts (on August 19). Registration is required, and begins on August 6. 

If you are registering for the 2pm session, please register just one of your family members, and include the age(s) of your family members who will be attending, so we can best tailor the program to you!

Adult Writers' Group

The Canton Adult Writers’ Group is for aspiring and experienced writers of all genres. We meet twice a month (second and fourth Tuesdays at 7pm) to discuss our works in progress, give each other constructive feedback, and discuss the ins and outs of the writing and publishing process. If you’re looking for motivation to make writing a regular habit, come join us!

U of M Stamps School of Art & Design STEAM Workshop: Mehndi Art

The cultures of India, Africa, and the Middle East often include a form of body art called Mehndi or Henna. Painted as a temporary tattoo using henna dye, Mehndi patterns are not only beautiful but also offer a rich source of geometric and computational thinking. During this workshop, you can learn about where Mehndi comes from, what the patterns symbolize, and even create your own Mehndi designs using the software provided in the workshop. Program is designed for patrons aged 12-17. Please bring your own laptop if possible. This program has been postponed until further notice.

American Girl Club

Join us as we discuss a different American Girl character or theme at each meeting, and enjoy crafts, games and activities. Celebrate a love of both historical and modern stories from all walks of life.

No prior knowledge of the books or character is needed. If you have an American Girl doll feel free to bring them, and a friend! This program is open to ages 8-12.

Virtual STEAM Curiosity

Kids aged 8-10 who are interested in science, technology, engineering, art, and math are invited to join us and explore various STEAM topics. First, kids will be introduced to a topic and the supporting ideas behind it. From there, participants will be given a problem and challenged to engineer a solution or create an example. Challenging, unusual and different, these programs are a great way to exercise the brain in the most fun way possible.
  • One week prior to the program, registered participants will receive an email with instructions for picking up program supplies and attending the live Zoom program.
