The indelible classical actor and action star, Sean Connery, passed away at the age of 90. Connery was a powerhouse of stage and screen, versed in Shakespeare, thrillers, drama, and even romance. But it was his singular portrayal of James Bond that exposed the character and the actor to the world. Connery will live on in our hearts and minds as our King Arthur, our Russian submarine captain, the father of Indiana Jones, and the coolest Brit spy of the 20th century.

Watchmen and Schitt$ Creek slayed all the competition and rightfully so. But Baby Yoda definitely got robbed. Check out these shows and all the other great series' nominated for the 2020 Emmys!

Halloween might feel and look a little strange this year because of everything that's going on in the world, but like the best of holidays it's more than just a set of rituals. There's a spirit to Halloween that's easy to catch and can be quite infectious. Perhaps the best way to kickstart your Halloween spirit is by watching a horror movie.

So, to help you fuel your Halloween spirit and keep it going all month long we've prepared a calender featuring a different horror movie (two on Saturdays) for you to watch in October. All of the movies featured are in the library's physical or digital collections.

Plus, we know weekends are special so we've turned them into theme days. When the work week ends many people are in search of a laugh. So, we'll  spotlight horror comedies on Fridays. The only thing better than a horror movie is a horror movie double feature. So, Saturdays will be days with a thematically linked double bill of films. Finally, we've made Sundays a day where the whole family can get in on the Halloween spirit by highlighting some all-ages, gateway horror films.

So, let's kick things off with your movies for the first week of Halloween

Joshua Jargowsky recommends The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Joshua shares, "I chose title because it really speaks to me. It's a heartwarming story of regeneration through nature. Mary Lennox goes from being spoiled, to being open and kind to those around her, and loving to get dirty in the gardens. Collin goes from being bedridden and hidden in a room, to being to walk and being healthy, simply by having some experiences, even if he needs to sneak out at first. It's truly enjoyable to watch these characters grow and change throughout the book, and that's one of the reasons why I've read this book many times, and found new insight each time."
