On Tuesday, September 14 8:00 PM, HelpNow by Brainfuse will be offering a learning-focused workshop on Addressing COVID Learning Loss with Dr. Danny Diaz, Ed. D., the director of the UCLA History-Geography project.

With all the conversations about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on “learning loss”, how can parents manage their stresses and fears in order to provide the kind of support our youth need at this moment? Drawing on his experiences in education and recent research, Danny Diaz will discuss how we can best address concerns around learning loss. This is a free workshop offered by HelpNow from Brainfuse.

Wall Street Journal and New York Times Online Access

Starting June 1, CPL will begin offering online "behind-the-paywall" access to two popular newspapers: The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Here's what you need to know: 

  • Links will be available on our databases page. 
  • You will need a Canton Public Library card and PIN to access these newspapers.
  • You will need to create a free account at the newspaper's site: wsj.com or nytimes.com. You will have an opportunity to do this after you authenticate with your library card information.*
  • Access through our website will be valid for 24 (NYT) or 72 hours (WSJ). After that, you will need to revisit the library's website to re-activate. There is no limit on how many times you may re-activate.

Weiss offers independent and unbiased financial information to help you compare and select stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs; banks and credit unions; and insurance companies. The Financial Ratings Series also includes customizable guides for choosing Medicare Supplement Insurance, financial planning ebooks and other tools.

March is Reading Month, and in celebration CPL staff are looking back at the books that first sparked our love of reading. What book made you love reading?

Junie B. Jones and the stupid smelly bus by Barbara Park

Tee V.: I remember reading the Junie B. Jones series when I was in first grade and falling in love with her spunky attitude and great sense of style, reading the whole series that was out to that point made me a voracious reader!

Maniac Magee : a novel by Jerry Spinelli

Whitney J.: It was the first book that made me think deeply about the social institutions in our country – race, class, gender, and more. I read it at least three times in elementary school and it’s still important to me today because of the ways that it opened my eyes to the world.

RBdigital Magazines Moves to OverDrive

If you're a fan of RBdigital magazines and OverDrive ebooks or audiobooks, we've got some great news for you. Starting February 18, magazines will be available in Libby (by OverDrive), where you will be able to access ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines in the same app. As of April 1, you will no longer use the RBdigital landing page or app to read electronic magazines. Magazine checkouts will not count toward OverDrive checkout limits, and you will still have access to the full range of previously-available magazines (and more) in the Libby app. 

 

 

 

Computers and Equipment Open to Walk-In Use

On October 1, 2020 the library entered the next stage of our phased reopening, limited in-person browsing. Computers and technology equipment are now available on a walk-in basis. PCs, a Fax-24 machine, printer/scanners, and copy card machine will be available for use and set up in a socially-distanced manner in the Children's Library, Web Express, and Self Service areas.

  • PC use is limited to one 60-minute session per day. 
  • Patrons are required to follow all of the library's public health and safety protocols: remain 6 feet away from other people, wear a mask, and don't come if you feel ill or have been in contact with someone who is ill. Patrons who refuse to comply with library policies will be asked to leave.
  • Per the Library's Pandemic Reopening Policy, food and drink are not permitted in the library unless medically necessary.

We are delighted to offer computer and equipment access, and we ask for your patience in this phase of limited service. We will have staff available to assist you during your visit, and we look forward to seeing you once again.
